Being admitted to hospital (inpatient care)

It may be necessary to be admitted to hospital for care in connection with a planned procedure or treatment, or if you suffer an unexpected injury or illness.

For the target group

There are a few things that could be good to think about before a hospital stay. The personnel at the hospital are unlikely to always be able to provide the sort of help you are used to receiving at home. If you are in need of significant help and assistance in your everyday life, you may also require such help and assistance during your hospital stay. However, this is not a general entitlement, but rather something that is assessed on a case-by-case basis. Questions concerning these types of issues should be referred to your personal assistance provider. If you have special aids that you need to cope with everyday life at home, make sure that you take them with you to the hospital to the extent this is possible.

Helpful tips

Before returning home

For a period of time after a procedure or surgery, you may find it particularly difficult to do certain things that you are normally able to do. Take some time to think about the aids you may need to help you cope with everyday life when you return home.

If you believe that you will need personal help or assistance after your hospital stay, it is important that you raise this issue as early as possible. A certain amount of advance notice and planning is required to put such measures in place. If your procedure has been planned in advance, it could be a good idea to discuss your needs with the administrator at the local municipality in good time prior to the procedure.

If, during your hospital stay, you begin to realise that you will need extra help when you return home, talk to the hospital curator or the senior nurse so that she can help to arrange the necessary contact with the administrator at the local municipality.
